What is homeopathy really? I'm not sure if I can
explain it. I do know that it is an art as much as a science. It's very
powerful and can do unbelievable things. It's based on the principle that like
cures like. That the body has the power to heal itself. That we all have a
"vital force" within us.
I know what it's NOT about. It is not about suppression or palliation. It's
not about taking a band-aid approach to health. It's not about Remedy "A" for
Disease "B". It's not about a one size fits all approach.
Homeopathy is about TRUE health, which is each animal's and human's
birthright. It's about curing chronic and inherited disease as well as acute
disease. And truly curing, not merely suppressing the symptoms and driving the
illness deeper into the body as allopathic medicine so frequently does. It's
looking at the "whole" animal. Not only the physical symptoms, but the mental
and emotional ones as well. I feel it is the essence of "wholistic" medicine.
(Not to be confusing, (w)holistic encompasses many modalities including
homeopathy, chiropractic, acupuncture, Western herbs, Chinese herbs, etc. )
I became interested in homeopathy when allopathic medicine could do nothing
for my Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). In fact, I had a toxic reaction to one of
the prescription drugs I was taking and nearly permanently lost most of my
lung capacity. Over the course of several weeks, I had been slowly loosing
lung capacity and my breathing was more and more labored. The doctors thought
I had bronchitis. I could not even walk (slowly) up a single flight of stairs
without falling to my knees at the top, coughing and gasping for breath, for
nearly 10 minutes before I recovered. I was, for all practical purposes,
disabled. After weeks of antibiotic therapy and no improvement, it dawned on
me that one of the side effects of a drug I was taking for my RA, was coughing
and shortness of breath. I called my rheumatologist and told her what was
happening. She told me to immediately stop that particular drug and my
breathing returned to normal in 24 hrs. I was "cured!"
After that extremely frightening experience, I swore off all allopathic
medicine for my RA and vowed to find a better way. I tried herbs and vitamins
with some success. But eventually I could not walk without a limp and had
problems with my hands as well. Out of desperation I sought out a homeopath.
Treatment was slow, but steady. Originally my goal was to be able to run
around a conformation ring so that I could show my dogs in breed. Sounds
simple enough but impossible for me at the time. Eventually I reached that
goal and I was thrilled. My improvement did not stop there however. I got to
the point where I could run agility courses. And I'm pretty sure, if I hadn't
told you I have RA, you would not know I have it, watching me run agility. Not
that I am a speed demon, but I do not show any signs of pain. I still have my
ups and downs, but even my bad days now are better than my good days used to
be. Eventually I hope to be entirely free of this disease. Even if that never
happens, my quality of life now has improved so remarkably, that I can
definitely live with this disease now. It no longer controls me. Basically
now, it's only an inconvenience. Which, I feel, is incredible. I've made huge
improvements with no dangerous side effects. The allopathic drugs I was taking
would have eventually destroyed my liver and could have caused macular
degeneration and blindness. When I realized the power of homeopathy I did not
hesitate to use it on my animals. I've seen equally impressive results with
them.
Homeopathy is nothing short of amazing. If this intrigues you read on. Others
more eloquent than I have written about it....
