What do all those abbreviations
mean? Here is a partial listing by registry. For more detailed info, go the
various registry's websites via the links provided.
AKC -
American Kennel Club
Conformation;
CH - Champion. Dogs need 15 points with at least 2 major wins under 2 different
judges. Major wins are 3 points or higher and are dependent on the number of
dogs beaten.
Obedience;
CD - Companion Dog. This is the first level of obedience competition.
CDX - Companion Dog Excellent. This is the second level of obedience
competition.
UD - Utility Dog. This is the third level of obedience competition.
These titles must be earned sequentially. A dog must have a CD before it can
compete at the CDX level for example. Each level requires 3 "legs". In each leg,
the dog must earn a minimum of 170 points out of a possible 200 and 50% or more
in each exercise. Each level gets progressively more difficult.
Agility;
NA - Novice Agility. This is the first level of standard agility competition. It
includes contact obstacles such as the A-frame and teeter totter.
NAJ - Novice Agility Jumpers. This is the first level of agility jumpers. There
are no contact obstacles in jumpers, just jumps, tunnels and weaves.
OA - Open Agility. Second level of standard agility.
OAJ - Open Agility Jumpers. Second level of jumpers agility.
AX - Agility Excellent. Third level of standard agility.
AXJ -Agility Excellent Jumpers. Third level of jumpers.
MX -Master Agility. Dog needs 10 qualifying runs in Excellent B competition. He
must first have an AX to compete for his Masters.
MXJ - Master Agility Jumpers. Same as the MX except in Jumpers class.
As in obedience, these titles must be earned sequentially. You also need 3
qualifying scores for each title. Requirements vary w/each level and get
progressively harder as you go up in competition. By the time you get to
Excellent, you have to run clean (no mistakes) and within time. There are more
traps, sharper turns etc in the more advanced levels.
Rally;
RN - Rally Novice
RA - Rally Advanced
RE - Rally Excellent
ASCA -
Australian Shepherd Club of America
Conformation;
Ch - Champion. Dog must earn 15 pts., with 3 major wins under 3 different
judges.
Obedience;
CD, CDX & UD same as above
Agility;
Regular; RS-N - Regular Standard Novice, similar to AKC's NA
RS-0 - " " Open, " " " OA
RS-E - " " Elite, " " " AX
Jumpers; JS-N - Jumper Standard Novice, similar to AKC's NAJ
JS-O - " " Open, " " " OAJ
JS-E - " " Elite, " " " AXJ
Gambers; GS-N - Gambler's Standard Novice
GS-O - " " Open
GS-E - " " Elite
ASCA also has classes for Veterans and Juniors with lower jump heights in all of
the above classes.
Herding;
STD - Started Trial Dog, this is the entry level title. It will be followed by
an "s" for sheep, "c" for cattle or "d" for ducks.
OTD - Open Trial Dog, this is the 2nd level of herding work.
ATD - Advanced Trial Dog, this is the 3rd level of herding work.
Each title is always followed by the letter of the stock the qualifying legs
were earned on.
WTCH - Working Trial Champion. Dog must earn ATD's on all 3 kinds of stock.
NADAC - North American Dog Agility Council
Novice Agility Certificate NAC
Novice Gamblers Certificate NGC
Novice Jumpers Certificate NJC
Open Agility Certificate OAC

UKC - United Kennel Club
Obedience;
U-CD - United Kennel Club - CD. Some of the exercises are a bit different from
AKC but this is the novice level title in obedience. UKC titles are placed
BEFORE the dog's name, unlike other registries, that put performance titles
afterwards.
U-CDX - UKC's CDX or Open level title.
U-UD - UKC's UD or Utility level title.
Agility;
U-AGI - UKC's Agiltiy 1
U-AGII - UKC's Agility 2
Other--Front and Finish
FFX-O Gold - Front and Finish Excellent - Obedience
All 3 legs of a title earned with scores of 190 or higher
FFX-O Platinum - Front and Finish Excellent - Obedience
All 3 legs of a title earned with scores of 195 or higher
FFX-A Gold - Front and Finish Excellent - Agility
All 3 legs of a title earned w/scores of 95 or higher in the first 3 consecutive
classes entered or 6 agility titles w/in a 12 month time period.
FFX-A Platinum Front and Finish Excellent - Agility
All 3 legs of a title earned w/clean runs (scores of 100) in the first 3
consecutive classes entered or all 8 agility titles w/in a 24 month time period.
