Week 5 - Shoelaces 101.....

Stalking and Pouncing 101, Shake and Kill 101, Adventuring 101, Wrestling 101, Socializing 101, Tugging 101...these are the subjects the puppies are intensely studying now.  And boy are they ever good students!  It's been a busy week!

The puppies had several visitors and enjoy meeting new people.  Aurora has been dubbed the "Wild Woman" (gosh I wonder why), and Quasar is "Mr. Mellow".  Sputnik is becoming a "Lady's Man" because he is oh so handsome!  LOL.  Their little personalities are beginning to develop.  This is a very kissy group and will wash your face if given half a chance.

At this point in time Aurora and Mars are the 2 dominant pups and the ones most often fighting and wrestling.  Rocket, Nova, Comet and Zoom are fairly high energy too.  Quasar, Star and Sputnik are the more laid back ones of the bunch.  Mars and Rocket are very toy oriented, but all of the pups like to carry and shake (kill) toys a lot.  They all love to chew sleeves, pant legs and shoelaces!

Some of them ventured outside for the first time.  Due to cold rainy weather we haven't gotten them all out yet.  The red boys had a fabulous outdoor excursion and hopefully by Sunday the black puppies can have a turn.  The red dogs all enjoyed their big adventure in the great outdoors.  New footing such as stone walkways, blacktop, leaves, sand and grass did not bother any of them.

Toys are becoming more and more interesting.  So much so that they carry them to quiet corners to play undisturbed.  I have several small tennis balls and a couple of hard rubber balls and the puppies really like to carry these in their mouths.  They've also figured out that if they bat a ball with their paw, it'll roll and then they can pounce on it.  Very cute!

As for eating, after the turkey, beef was the next protein source for the puppies to try.  Their diet included hamburger, tripe, liver, and heart.  One day I gave them beef neck bones just for kicks.  Unfortunately the butcher only had 8.  Mars and Rocket were content to share for quite a while.  Unfortunately, some other puppies decided to play musical bones and much growling ensued.  They are too little to really get much meat off the bones but they did have a good time gnawing off what they could.  Next on the menu was pork muscle meat served up in increasingly bigger pieces.  Organic cow's milk, organic raw eggs and salmon oil are part of daily fare also.  One day they had recreational bones (beef ribs and shoulder blades) and enjoyed chewing on those quite a bit.

As you can see, they are growing rapidly!
