Week 6 - The Great OutdoorsAdventuring we shall go! The puppies have been spending time outside whenever weather permits. They love it! Great explorers they are becoming! The entire group has been outside and also each puppy individually to see how they handle new things without the support of their littermates. No shrinking violets in this bunch. Life is one big party as far as they are concerned. Another new experience was their first car ride and crate time. I let them have 30 minutes of outdoor frolicking before our trip and then we packed everyone up, 3 to a crate and a 4th crate for Jacqui and off we went. With fresh recreational beef bones in each crate, we took a 20 minute drive and after a few minutes of whining, they all settled and slept peacefully. Their diet this week included pork the first couple of days and then we moved on to a new protein source, cornish game hens cut and chopped slightly to break up the bones. The puppies devour the poultry with bone with gusto and ease! By the end of the week, they were eating whole pieces! I am now clicking BEFORE I put the food down to form the association that the click means the food is coming. Shoelaces 101 was aced by all the puppies. It is a real project to walk thru the puppy pen now. I literally have to pry their mouths off my shoe laces. And some of them are beginning to talk while they tug! It is hysterical! Such a bunch of toughies! Toys continue to be very important to the puppies. They are starting to play tug-o-war with each other. If I roll a ball a short distance they will pounce after it and sometimes even bring it back. This is really a fun group!
